Happy Naked Reading Day!Here I am in my natural state: naked, unshaven, bespectacled, striking unnecessary theatrical poses, reading sexy books. In my hand is Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, which influenced me profoundly from an early age.

August 23rd marks Naked Reading Day which some of you remember that I participated in last year aswell.

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen is a book I read back in high school. It’s a sleeping beauty story within World War I and the survivors of the Holocaust. In this book we read about a grandmother who tells her grandchildren stories about Briar Rose. After her passing one of her granddaughter’s Rebecca finds out that there is truth to the story and is actually her grandmothers experience in surviving the concentration camps, gas chambers and hiding out in the woods during the first world war.

I really enjoyed the book and it now reminds me of my recently passed Head Librarian at the library I used to work at. She told me stories of her family surviving the Holocaust and of very similar stories of survival from the camps and trying very hard to survive in the woods with others who were lucky to escape or barely make it out alive.

If any of you get the chance you should read it.

Happy Naked Reading Day!! This is my first year participating, and I don’t know how I waited so long. I love reading, and I really like being naked. Give it a try, you might like it too. I have 2 really great books in these pictures. The first is Seal Girl, and I read it way back in middle school. It was the first book to provoke a real emotional response from me. The other is Dune, and I just started it. It was a gift from one of my favouritest people.

I’m reading 1984 because I was supposed to in high school but never got around to it. Figured it was time.
i missed out on this last year because…well i’m not sure why. but i’m glad i got to join this year!
i chose the golden compass because i absolutely love fantasy, and this was such an interesting series i couldn’t put it down once i started. i would recommend it to anyone who has a passion for fantasy.
C’mon, someone needs to represent the e-readers out there. I’ve moved a lot in the last ten years, and at a certain point you’ve just got too many goddamned books. On the docket right now: Cloud Atlas.

Dear Jenny (aka HennnyPotter) has it really been 2 years since I made my Naked Reading post? Sadly that’s not quite appropriate for my tumblr anymore but I remember I was reading Plato’s Republic and I had about 12 inches less hair.
I’ve since become a big fan of my Nook because of its flexibility (I’ve got about 10 or so books and just purchased an additional memory card) which I acquired secondhand from a friend. I love it and when I find the time to read, I’ve been immersed into the complete collection of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Reading a book about baseball statistics. Go figure.
