I think Naked Reading Day is technically over, but I’ve got half the day off. Why not spend it reading naked? Reading Joie D’Amour, an erotic memoir my high school library gave to me. I have no idea who thought it would be a good idea to donate books full of French porn to a high school. Or who at our high school thought that it would be a good idea to leave said porn around for delicate, impressionable teenagers. I thank them both from the bottom of my heart, though.

For me, J.G. Ballard’s High Rise was the book that changed the world. It had a tremendous impact on the way I perceived people and our environment, the life that passes just beneath the surface, and the sheer power of words and imagery.
